I have been away – a lovely trip to France, up and down the Soane river from Lyon.

It also gave me the wonderful opportunity to visit the Musee des Tissus, the Lyon Silk Museum and what a treat it was.

Lyon had been the centre for silk production in the C18th, producing top quality silk fabrics for the wealthy in Europe, their prosperity came to an abrupt halt around the time of the French Revolution, 1789, but then revived during the early decades of the C19th under Napoleon.

From the Museum—

This is a Jacquard loom which was invented in France in the C18th.
